The Next Generation of Track Cycling in MN

MN Legislative funding requests introduced

Share your support with the Legislature

We’re thrilled to announce that House File HF 3951 and Senate File SF 4213 have been introduced by Richfield legislators, Rep. Mike Howard and Sen. Melissa Wiklund. We are requesting $4 million to secure the proposed property in Richfield and begin our design and development work.  This is a crucial investment and the first step toward the larger goal of building the MN Cycling Center.

Richfield Approves Resolution of Support

The Minnesota Cycling Center (MNCC) is excited to announce that the City of Richfield’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) unanimously approved a resolution of support for our plan to build the MN Cycling Center in their Bicycle Friendly Community.  This resolution reserves the exclusive right for the MN Cycling Center to secure the proposed Richfield site through June of 2024.  Our vision is to build an innovative velodrome, poised to become a cornerstone of cycling excellence and community hub. This resolution signifies a pivotal step towards advancing the cycling culture, championing community engagement, and nurturing a healthier, more active lifestyle for residents.

The Premier Cycling and Education Complex in the Midwest

The MN Cycling Center is a racing and education destination for cyclists and fans of all ages.  The facility will provide community cycling programs, after-school STEM education curriculum and a home for world-class racing.

The Next Generation of MN Sports Leadership

Velodrome bicycle racing has put Minnesota on the world map for 30 years. The state-owned NSC Velodrome is the most unique facility at the NSC and one of only 26 in the U.S. The outdoor wood track has hosted the 1992 Olympic Cycling Trials, several U.S. National Championships, international Grand Prix meets, a weekly race series, development classes and training sessions.

After 25 years of exposure to the elements, the cycling community rallied to raise $100,000 to complete necessary repairs and the Velodrome attracted 1,000 riders and more than 4,000 spectators from around the world during that season of rebirth. The NSC Foundation board has different plans for the Velodrome site, however. After the 2019 racing season, the Velodrome was permanently closed. The MN Cycling Center will be the next phase in the development of cycling in Minnesota. This popular sport will grow even more as we roll out our programs for high school athletes.
